Shadow!Kechika: Then you are just like those who came before, selfish to a fault. Rather risk all their lives to save yours, than use yours to save theirs.
Kiro: So that was the true nature of this curse, huh. Henri Dubois killed all those people to save himself. And our family never atoned for it.
Shadow!Kechika: Exactly! You’re a smart girl, aren’t you? So will you surprise me?
“Trust me, everything will work out if you just kill yourself first” is hardly the most convincing argument to make.
She surely will, but probably not the way Kechika expects or wants. Kechika seems not so much interested in one person’s atonement as she is in everyone’s suffering.
Maybe because she is adopted, renouncing her family counts as “killing” the Dubois? After all, if she does that, there is no Dubois in the area any more.
If selfishness is at the root, than a one-time statement that costs her little seems unlikely to satisfy the power that already decided she should be on the hook for this. Pretty sure she has to go back and keep saving the camp.
Up until this point, all we knew was that the curse was a cycle. To stop the cycle, you have to interrupt the cycle or change the usual outcome. But now, both we (the audience) and Kiro know the true nature of the curse: The Dubois Family never atoned for the act.
If Kirk makes an atonement, such as sacrificing her needs/desires to protect and save the abandoned kids, that could be sufficient to break the root of the curse.
Just my two cents (adjusted for inflation: $ 0.00003534 and 8/3). Take care!
There’s a lot of grey area between “kill yourself to save everyone” and “kill everyone to save yourself” ShadowKechika.
I would want some guarantees about this saving business before I shook hands anyway. Because the other purple haired person called Mom sure managed to right screw everything up at camp and then sod off, food delivery to camp was already under the table before the boat sunk so no rescue is coming, a lot of food is already unusable, and there’s no connection to the outside world via interwebz.
Just saying, if I was Kiro I’d want some thorough knowledge and steep terms about what kind of magic is gonna keep all the current campers alive for the winter and then find them help.
I think ShadowKechika just wants to cause chaos. She is Kechika’s dark side.
You can keep alive to save them too, though.
Especially since dying to save gives you no assurances.
Still feels too easy.
