Kiro: So… is there a favor you want to ask?
Penny: Don’t be so cold, Kiro. I have no ill intentions. If anything, I just want to help you out.
Penny: We’re more alike than you think. The President’s in charge, but you’re pulling the strings. So what’s your end goal? What do you plan to do with your position?
Kiro: I simply want to help us survive the winter.
Penny: I don’t know how else to put this, but your whole plan seems highly suspect.
But only if you’ve become completely cynical, Penny. Maybe it’s time to re-evaluate.
There’s a bit to unpack here.
#1. I’m assuming that Penny doesn’t really know what Kiro’s plan is yet, but her dialogue seems to infer that she does.
#2. Maybe she doesn’t know it, but wasn’t expecting Kiro to say “I just want to survive” and was expecting some kind of political agenda like Penny would have.
#3. She’s still hung up on the weapons stash.
Whatever the case, Kiro may indeed be trying to steer that boulder, but it isn’t just for personal gain.
Someone without an ulterior motive? No such thing!
Penny could be aware (likely not) of the source of Kiro’s plans. Plus, she doesn’t know that the curse has trapped them here with no intention of letting them get out alive.
If penny wants to help that means being introduced to her friends and a few other secrets only Kiro and Co are aware of.
Considering that Kiro is the only one at camp who has any clue how dire the situation is, I suppose I can understand why Penny would consider that to sound weird. It’s not like anybody there seems particularly preoccupied with surviving. Even with the food crisis, the overall attitude seems to be less “I’m terrified of starving to death” and more “I’m hangry all of the time, this suuuuucks.”
Penny still suspects that “kill the others and eat them” is part of the plan, maybe? Like the curse foretells, really.
Interesting, I hadn’t actually considered that possibility. That does make a lot of sense!
Sounds about right. People can be remarkably thick sometimes, especially en masse.
Man, things have been bad there a long time. The curse works.
