Ian: Where on earth is that from??
David: I haven’t seen name brand Candy™ in years!
Ian: What am I doing? I can start today!
Kiro: That was fast.
Kiro: You will serve on Reina’s council, and in return for payment in exotic foods, you answer to me.
Ian: Sounds good.
Reina: This doesn’t reek of corruption at all…
Kiro: Does it? I won’t be on the council. As president, you grant no direct “favors” to your council members.
Not technically corrupt, of course.
I wonder if a system where crimes against the spirit of the law can be grounds for conviction could somehow work, or is doomed to go more wrong.
That’s kind of the system we live in today, really.
I can’t seem to find it anymore, but I distinctly remember watching a video in which a lawyer explained that it’s actually really hard to “get off on a technicality” in a real court, partly because judges have such broad powers to… well, judge things.
Politics 101. I love it! <3
Eh, it’s plausible deniability. Anyone trying to accuse the politician of the dirty works his staff members conduct will then have prove that the guy knew about all of it and was okay with it.
Politics is Corrupt by Design.
Anyone who tells you otherwise is trying to sell something, or someone.
That’s some loophole. Let’s hope it’s not also attached to a noose that will backfire later.
Who am I kidding, of course it is!

Inability of humans to agree on the spirit of the law is the whole reason why writing the law down was a breakthrough toward making the scope of punishable acts even vaguely predictable. Most of history (naturally largely unrecorded) had punishment based on unwritten rules. The Camp actually already has such a system given how spontaneously Kiro was sentenced to food deprivation and Death Course, so having friends on the council is the only way to avoid punishment for anything.
And I thought real-life politics were messed up. Do these guys also participate in trial by combat? Do I even want to know?
They already did the field of bones gauntlet.
that was trial by ordeal
I thought Reina was supposed to be the shady one here…
Wow this is a new side of Kiro and she manage to look very sweet all through it.
It’s only corruption if you get caught. Or if the other side is doing it.
Also “name brand Candy(TM)” is…just brilliant.
Yeah, once again Kiro proving why she was sent here for scamming and fraud. And to think we were worried about Reina being the shady one here…
Oh god, the poor girl’s gonna become president and get her heart broken, isn’t she? And even though Kiro’s being genuinely benevolent, none of that’s showing through in her actions, and Reina will have no reason to believe her about the curse…
This isn’t just going to end badly even if they win, this is going to end heartbreakingly, isn’t it? T_T
