Reina: After he disappeared for good, I felt pointless. It didn’t matter how long we’d been together. What do I have that’s better than her?
Reina: The more I thought about it, I realized he’s the crazy one. He refused to accept our reality and ran off to die.
Reina: I thought he’d come back one day. Starving, desperate. Before that, I had to find some kind of purpose.
Reina: If I became council president, I wouldn’t have time or reason to care about petty things like him.
Reina: But still… my biggest regret was coming here in the first place.
Kiro: You came here willingly??
Reina totally reminds me of Mr. X from Streets of Rage sitting on that chair in panel 4. Just from that one image it really shows a side of her character that eludes to her impulse to devote herself completely to get whatever she wants. Maybe that’s why A thinks she’s overbearing and felt like he had to run.
Or maybe he’s just an outdoorsy kind of guy at heart. But since Reina seems to have wanted to come to camp, she must have had a better reason than “I want to be president of the council at a rehab facility.”
I think he ran to get away from mom and secure his book? Or am I remembering this wrong?
I have the theory that she followed A to the camp. But I might be completely wrong.
That could be true, too. He probably didn’t know about the book before he got to camp but that doesn’t mean he didn’t learn about it after he got there. Regardless, he still thinks Reina is bad news, so she definitely changed in his eyes when she came to camp.
Okay, Archie, you were right – Reina is out of her mind. Anybody who comes to live here willingly is.
I wonder if she came because she did not want to be separated from A…? If so, he surely was a bit of a jerk to dump her like that. On the other hand, we have A’s side of the story and he said Reina changed at camp and was not the Reina he had know before. I guess time will tell – I really like the development of the plot (and your improved way of drawing)!
Living well is the best revenge, but I wouldn’t exactly call being president of this Lord of the Flies operation “living well.”
The way A is standing in the third panel looks like an A. Can we get letter-drawings for the other characters?
