[Kiro: Got one!]
Kiro: Why, you little-
A: We’ve got a long way to go.
Now taking bets on whether Kiro comes up with a fish, but no net.
And the answer is…. Hijinks ensue! Kiro’s expression when the fish leaps out is priceless.
Also, shouldn’t someone be like, telling Kiro what to do rather than watch her struggle? My assumption is that Daisy told her the basics off camera because that’s not really important to the plot. A on the other hand is just like “Meh, you suck at this.”
The best way to learn is by repeated failure. Of course that’s not the only way one should learn, but it’s certainly been my best teacher…
Although oftentimes that lesson is “This method is dangerous, and even lethal when used improperly.”
For example, if a failure results in say, 10,000 acres burned in California, that’s certainly educational. Certain people this summer learned a LOT about improper use of fireworks.
Oh absolutely! You won’t learn unless you do it. However, as a trainer, that also involves being shown how to do it at least once first ; ]
But yes, things like “the knack” that you develop over time are incredibly hard if not impossible to teach. Once you develop that instinct to know that you’re pressing too hard, moving too fast, or being able to realize when a fish is going to leap out of your net, that’s hard to explain to someone because you usually don’t really understand it yourself – you just “know”. Repeated attempts are the only way to get to that point, hopefully with not too many catastrophic failures.
Why don’t they use a fishing rod?
It’s funny because there’s an advertisement to a fishing website right below the page. If only Kiro could use it… ^^
I bet they could makeshift one…
“I fought the fish, and the…fish won!
I fought the fi..sh and the fi-i-i-sh won.”
I needed fish cause I… had none
I fought the fish, and the… fish won!
😀
Have they ever said what time of year this is? How much longer do they have before winter hits?
You can’t catch salmon in a river with a fishing rod. The reason is that salmon only swim in rivers when they are on their way upstream to breed, and they don’t eat anything during that time, so they wouldn’t be interested in any bait.
Considering that the salmon are coming up the river, it should be around midsummer or even earlier.
BTW, the best way to get salmon which are traveling upriver is with nets. Barring that, weaving fishtraps out of willow branches is a better use of one’s time than this.
The last few panels remind me of “Be A Man” from Mulan-
