Daisy: Just stay busy and it’ll take your mind off things.
A: Hey, did I conk out? What happened?
Um Kiro? Perhaps you should STACK the wood after Daisy chops it…..
You know what, depending on the wood, that task can be even harder to teach and learn.
Seconded – I’ve made some pretty darn ugly wood piles myself!
Those are really unsafe axes, though good for camping and hiking. A good splitting axe would have about twice as long a handle. That way, you cant hit yourself: the axe hits ground if you miss, instead of the knee.
And the other point is: you don’t extract the axe. Instead, you raise the log and hit with both the axe and the log. 🙂
Haha, I noticed that too 🙂 I’ll probably redraw those frames at some point. Also for whatever reason, I was imagining Kiro splitting an oak log that was too heavy for her to pick up. Only to remember later that oaks don’t grow this far north. Smh
Maybe cottonwood? That’s hard to split even for experts!
I read that as getting the axe stuck in the trunk you use as base for chopping the logs O.o the size would be about right AND you would really need to get it out instead of chopping through it. (just add a smaller log on top of it that she misses and flies off)
I was taught to stand with my feet wide apart, to avoid hitting the knee. I’ve never seen an axe that long.
The ones I’ve used are about as long as my arm, actually. So this was indeed a drawing error haha
While standing with your feet wide helps a lot, there is still the risk of the axe swinging out to one side when hitting the log. A more effective way is to bring your hands down in the stroke, more letting the axe fall in a controlled manner than really swinging it. That way, just as with the long-handle splitting axes, the axe head will hit the ground and not your feet. Also makes for more splitting with less effort!
Whooo! I’m caught up! Awesome comic, lovely visuals and characters, intriguing story with unusually good pacing when binge-reading. I was a little disappointed when finding out that Mom’s motivation seems to be tied in with the curse that explains essentially everything mysterious about this camp, I had hoped that there were separate mysteries in there. As it stands, it seems to me that we’re at the beginning of the end of this detox camp!
Well, I’ve only known these characters for a couple of days in my time, and I guess there’s a year or two left before the story of this camp ends. But… these characters feel like the kind of characters I’d love to follow in a webcomic epic going on for a decade, with evolving art and many stories. So it makes me a little sad that this comic seems to be set up for this single story, of which I believe I am seeing the beginning of the end.
I may have it wrong. I kind of hope I do, but then again, I don’t want the story to suddenly change pace and drag on or change weirdly into something it was never supposed to be. But I guess I’m asking, @sereneseal, do you have an end planned or do you plan to keep going somehow? Just so I know which of the two to expect. Either way I look forward to have this among the comics I follow, but I might take to reading the updates two at a time on Thursdays simply because I have more than enough webcomics on Mondays and not enough on Thursdays.
Thank you and I’m really happy you are enjoying the comic! There is a planned ending, but as for what happens leading up to it, I enjoy letting the characters write themselves 🙂 I won’t spoil anything, but let’s say that figuring out the “why” of the curse won’t easily solve the “how” of how to deal with it. (Or the question of who Mom is in the first place.) As for how long this comic might run, I don’t know myself. But my sketched pages currently extend out to July 2022, and that point is nowhere near the end, so rest assured.
Further regarding the future of this project, I’ve always wanted to create an animated series. I write my chapters as if they were TV episodes so that might be why you find the pacing a bit different. Of course that’s getting way ahead of myself here; I would consider myself extraordinarily lucky if in the future I had the chance to work on that full-time.
And there’s always the possibility of other stories with these characters as well. There’s no shortage of things that can be done (if I could find more time!)
She can clean scales off fish! It’s pretty easy for beginner!
But still can be bloody for fingers.
Well, Daisy will probably put her to some productive work soon enough!
Awesome comic. I just found it, binged and here I am, waiting for the next episode. This is a truly interesting story line and I’m looking forward to future installments. Keep up the good work, Serene-a. 😉
Thanks! I’m glad you’re enjoying it and I welcome your future comments as well!
A’s expression! Lol XD
What’s really impressive is that Daisy has managed to clean all those fish without getting a single spot on her dress.
@KS Lots and lots of practice?
