Going for a hike in unfamiliar terrain at night is a formula for getting yourself completely lost, and in a real wilderness also getting yourself dead. Doing it when you know there are trip wires where you’re going is just an amazingly bad idea.
A good moonlight is not much worse than sunlight for navigation, just for overview. Clouds or worse fog is the real way to get lost and those can be just as effective at daytime. But when there is a creek to follow, it’s all about diligence and memory, with weather and time not making much difference unless it’s very thick fog.
Trip wires though. I’d wait for daytime at the fork.
Sometimes, dumb luck works better than skill…
…but that’s not the way to bet. ^^

Maybe she’ll finally learn her lesson this time about wandering off…

In fairness, she’s probably trying not to be followed by the other campers, but yeah. Definitely lost.
I knew she should’ve taken that left turn in Albuquerque.
