[Kiro: In college, I was a hungry art student… Until I found the job. It seemed easy. Create fake dating profiles… and send people a link that disabled their phone.]
[Kiro: But I could easily disable the virus with a secret code… They thought they were getting a good deal for their broken phones… I was re-selling them at a tidy profit.]
[Kiro: This may seem real shady, but look… I didn’t really have a choice.]
Ms Mom said Kiro was a thief.
This is not theft.
The only dishonest part of her operation is the fake dating profiles. That is a civil matter.
Buying phones from people too stupid to reset them is not a crime either. (A factory reset is not a “secret code”. And a glyph that exploits a glitch is not a virus: Per definition, a virus spreads.)
Sounds more like a trojan than a glyph, and in common usage, a lot of people would probably call it a virus even though it’s incorrect. Similarly, it’s technically a cybercrime and fraud (I think), but the victims would definitely call it theft.
Huh. That indicates a lot of technical sophistication on her part. Especially if she had something that worked across different brands.
Yep. The first thing I learned in Economics: Buy low, sell high.
