Penny: Slowly growing, deepening, swallowing everything… that’s what’s behind the Door.
Kiro: Why does Mom want to open it, then?
Penny: It’s the only way to survive. The research of Dubois is in that journal.
Kiro: I assume that’s what A has been after this entire time?
Penny: Captain Henry Dubois escaped this place. That journal contains the key to how he did it. How else would your lineage even exist, Kiro Dubois?”
[Kiro: True, what made me think he died here?]
Kiro: Then why –
Penny: “Why didn’t we work together”? Why not, huh? A became scared. He thought it was too risky. But now you see his mistake. We’re running out of time. We must act.
…and as soon as I saw the name “Henry Dubois” I started thinking of Disco Elysium
Penny was in the know the whole time. So why not let Kiro in on it earlier? Also what kind of action is she hinting at?
This says that there is a problem with Penny’s actions or a cost, something to scare A.
There are then three paths, both claiming trying one the other would auto fail that one :
Survive harmoniously the winter in near starvation without devolving into fight or cultist behavior, as told by light keshika : unpleasant, mundane, difficult… but straightforward and uncorruptive
Kill one of the two dubois to save the rest, as claimed by shadow Keshicka : corruptive, likely a trap, but fast and easy
And now, try a counterspell. mystic and unreliable, likely difficult, but also fast.
I guess A prefers option 1, and Penny 3, but the pressure will tempt other into option 2 over time.
