Darien: On their first expedition, they lost one of our own! Clearly, Reina Paxton cannot be trusted to be our leader and keep us safe.
Kiro: ‘Scuse me, coming through!
Darien: As per the camp charter, I demand a special election take place! And I would like to lead the next expedition for food!
Darien: Ah. You are here to speak for her?
Kiro: You bet.
I am cynical enough to say that it is a great idea to let him lead the next expedition for food given the state of the shipwreck… But Kiro is far less cynical than me.
And on a general note: I am really happy about the rounded characters in the comic – not the least a number of strong female leading characters portrayed with a lot of complexity.
Lost one of their own? If I recall correctly, more than a few people were sent to Death Course and never came back. Oh, but wait, that’s fine. That’s in the spirit of “keeping everyone safe”.
However, I do understand what I think he’s trying to say. As a leader, you’re responsible for those under your supervision. Maybe she shouldn’t have allowed an expedition into that ship, but the circumstances are pretty severe no matter how you look at it. And I don’t think anyone would have been able to predict that the ship would capsize at that exact moment. Now, if she continues to lose someone every time she goes out, that’s definitely a cause for concern.
Hopefully, Ben is okay by some miracle and just steps into the debate room like “What are you babbling about?!” That would be pretty epic.
I’m thinking Ben WILL pop in at some point. Kiro will be redeemed, and Darien will be disappointed. However, Ben is now out of his element and is now fighting the elements. Here’s to hoping he makes it back safely.
Yeah, I’m not too surprised to see him taking advantage of any slip-up he can. That was always a given.
But I also feel like if anybody besides Kiro had seen how Reina reacted at the ship, it would…not inspire a lot of faith in her. Which is of course something else he’d capitalize on if he got the chance.
To be fair: losing a kid in the wilderness IS quite a “slip-up”.
“There’s no need for an election. Reina concedes. Damien’s in charge. He’ll lead the next expedition for food, and when the survivors return, we’ll get back to work.” Smile, wink, thumbs-up, crickets chirp.
