A place on the council? Hmm…
—————-
4.03 Transcript
Reina: I’ll be straight with you. Darien promised a place on the council to anyone who could get a lead on Archie… Not long after you claimed to have seen him alive.
Kiro: But you didn’t think that would cause any trouble?
Reina: I told them to be careful not to hurt you.
Kiro: …
Kiro: So in the end, this was all about politics? And not about your missing boyfriend?
Reina: Come on, let’s get back to camp.
Kiro: She didn’t deny it this time…
Politics, n. A strife of interests masquerading as a contest of principles. The conduct of public affairs for private advantage.
-Ambrose Bierce, The Devil’s Dictionary
… Though that does raise the question: what exactly is it about being on the Council that’s so special? It seems to me like the place a drill sergeant holds – riding herd on and scaring the crap out of a bunch of kids in the hope that eventually they can be pointed in more or less the right direction with a minimum of casualties…
I like this definition. It’s always about the special interests.
Then again, some may find entertainment value or psychological comfort in ordering people around. For those who don’t enjoy the outdoors, or are scared of the wilderness, camp is quite terminally dull.
As far as I’ve seen, this council consists of like five kids who think using Darien’s muscle to force their immediately-believe-any-rumor-they’re-told no-attention-span whimsical proclamations upon the three or four other kids in camp constitutes rule of law. They seem very invested in having everyone spend their their time making each other miserable rather than like, organizing and helping each other out.
Given that, joining the council seems like a good idea in so far as it gets closer to having the council make up everyone and removing one element of division.
@Hobbes – Interesting, maybe reina thinks she can use that position to greater effect than darien? or they’ve got some secret priviledge…
Politics, n. A contraction of “poly”, meaning many, and “tics”, a bloodsucking parasite.
Haha – I’ll have to remember that one…
You are on this council, but we do not grant you the rank of Master.
I do believe Reina’s got her own agenda, but might just not feel like she can confide in Kiro enough yet. That being said, I don’t dislike Reina for it just yet. Time will tell where she falls.
Knowing communication, “She didn’t deny it” isn’t a strong statement outside of fiction. Much more likely, that the single world simply was missed.
In fiction though, there’s usually real significance to it I guess.
This camp is not a democracy.
If you want to have any say in anything, even your own private affairs, you have to get medieval.
