Where it all went wrong: Kiro is rubbish with academic stuff, but still wants to attend art school.
Most people are kinda rubbish with academic stuff outside their own interests, but not that bad within them, in my experience. Or just about okay outside interests, actually good within them. And then there’s professors: mostly useless outside their interests, positively brilliant within them.
(this view of people’s academic proficiency may be heavily biased by me having been in academia for a decade now, and that last line is a bit exaggerated for comic effect… well, in most cases, there are also cases where that line seems like an understatement!)
